Well now that summer is officially here this year most people will start driving a lot more. Throughout the winter people tend to try and drive less, but then once summer hits people start going to the beaches, cottages and many other places. Now the summer driving might not be as hectic as previous years due to the high increase in gas recently, but there will no doubt still be a lot of people going to the beaches and cottages this summer. I do tend to feel that people might try keeping it a bit closer to home but nonetheless I don't think people are going to skip summer due to high prices in gas.

Before you embark on your first summer trip though I recommend you do a basic self check-up on your vehicle in your driveway the week before. The reason you should do it a week before is then you'll have lots of time to make sure you fix anything that needs fixing before your trip. If you do the check-up the night before and notice that something is wrong then you've sort of found out a little too late and now the trip will need to be sidelined the next day for a few hours.

The things you should look for when you do the basic check-up on your vehicle are very basic and simple things that anyone can do. You just want to make sure that everything is all ready to go before heading out onto the highway. You should first make sure you have enough air in your tires and also take a look to see how bad the wear and tear is on them. If you notice that it's fairly bad then you might need new tires.

Make sure all the fluids in your car are full to the top and that you have extra in the trunk in case you run out. Things like oil, antifreeze and windshield fluid are all things to make sure are full to the top. Also make sure that you pack an emergency kit when going on your trip because if you break down on the highway you want to make sure you're not stuck there for a long period of time. Having a flashlight, batteries, food and blankets are all smart things to keep in your cars trunk because you never know how long it will take for a tow truck to get to you. Depending where you are it could take until the next day so having all these things are important to having a safe night in your car.

If you don't do a check-up on your car then you'll most likely need the emergency kit so make sure you always do a basic and quick check-up on your vehicle before embarking on the first summer trip. There are other things you can look at as well on your car depending on your knowledge and the more you can check the better, because after winter your car tends to need some adjusting.
