Many people these days are looking to purchase wood blinds for their home. Wood is very fashionable at the moment and can give a window a natural warm feel.

Wooden venetian blinds are not without there problems however. Wood is a natural product that absorbs moisture, cause the wood to swell or shrink. It is not a fault of the blind but a naturally occurring feature. The trouble is that this swelling can actually cause the thin slats of the blind to warp and bend, ruining the look of the blind and stopping full closure - not very good for your privacy!

Warping of a wood venetian is more likely to occur in bathrooms, kitchens and conservatories. These rooms have excesses in moisture or temperature or both.

Woods can also have a large stack. The stack is the thickness of the blind when it is fully drawn up. Anyone looking to pull the blind up should consider this, as it can block a lot of light from a window. The stack is larger because each slat is thicker.

The answer of course is an aluwood venetian blind. These blinds are aluminium but with a convincing wood print. When the blind is closed, you may struggle to tell the difference. It does away with all of the problems of a wood venetian in - smaller stack, no warping and on top of this they are lighter to operate.

The tone of this article may suggest I am against wood, but I have wood blinds in my home. Whatever the difficulties, you just can't beat the real thing, and maybe you'll still buy wood blinds. At least you know the potential pitfalls.
