Give Yourself Permission To Top The Search Results!
Are you tired of searching for your business online and coming up blank? Maybe you find your competitor, and a picture of him on his site grinning behind a fistful of cash. Who is this guy anyway?! You didn't give him permission to dominate your market niche. And you certainly didn't authorize him to become a huge Internet success while your website flounders down in the tens-of-thousands area of search results.
The fact is, 90 percent of people who do Web searches don't click past the first two pages of results before deciding which link to select. About 75 percent of people will only click on results within the first five, and if they don't see what they like they will refine their search terms until they do. People have come to trust the wisdom of Google and Yahoo! to find the best matches for their search terms and put them up top.
So that's where you want to be: on top. You definitely want to be up there above that other guy, clutching your OWN wad of bills. There is an easy way to start moving toward that goal.
Article marketing is not a new concept, but many people are just finding out about it. People have always written about their businesses in order to attract new customers, but they used to be limited by paper and the Postal Service. Now, anyone can have a website, newsletter or bulk email service that works for them 24/7, even while they sleep. You want to be a part of this process.
Here's how you do it: Write one or two articles a week (or as many as you want) that will interest readers in your target market. Then submit these articles using software or a submission site. Submission sites are much easier than software, and their publisher lists are typically much more up to date (which is important, because more come online every day).
When you submit articles about your business for distribution across the Web, each site that posts it also contains a link to your website. This is how search engines determine your page rank, or the order of websites that appear in search results. The greater the number of credible websites that post your link, the higher your webpage will appear in the search results.
Google's founders have said that content is the basis of the Internet, and they want to bring relevant, accurate content to their customers whether it comes from across the street or across the globe.
Therefore, it's important to make sure your content is quality content. If it's keyword-stuffed or geared toward Black Hat SEO, you are not going to succeed. Search engines are getting smarter by the minute, and they are no longer fooled by articles in which every other word is "tuxedo" or "Hawaii." Don't stuff...inform.
Also, services that offer to alter your article using automatically generated synonyms simply aren't as "smart" as one might hope. They often mistake the context in which words are used, and the article ends up sounding like it was written by a computer -- which it was.
The best practices to use when marketing yourself are fairly self-evident. Don't try to cheat the system -- it will only frustrate you and you will likely give up before you've had a chance to get started. Do write informative, quality content pieces (at least two a week for the best results) and you will be impressed by how quickly you start to get noticed. Most of all, have fun! It's not a chore to write about what you do, as long as you're doing something you enjoy. Share that passion with your target audience!
