Do You Have A Problem with Cloudy, Foamy, Or Foul Aquarium Water
The change in the condition of the fish tank water is often as a result of a high concentration of bacteria. Common causes for the deterioration in the water include over feeding, irregular filter changes, irregular water changes and extreme light.
When feeding, be careful with the amount of food that is given, over feeding will leave food floating in the tank. If any food remains after approximately ten minutes of feeding, it would be wise to remove it.
If decaying material is not removed from the filter this may result in an increase in nitrate and phosphates, this can provide sustenance for the bacteria to feed upon.
Making water changes at regular intervals is important to help control the nitrate and phosphate levels in the fish tank. As a general rule, it is advisable not to remove more than 15% to 20% of the tanks volume during a change over.
Extreme light can be as a result of the fish tank being located in a room with lighting or exposed to direct sunlight.
If you continue to be plagued with cloudy water in your aquarium, it may be a wise investment to take advantage of the various products on the market that are intended for this particular problem, such as Algone - which will correct nutrient imbalances in order to clear the murky water.
Visiting the fish store that you purchased your aquarium from is generally the best place to obtain guidance from for maintaining your fish tank. They should have a variety of different products in store that will be able to solve your gloomy water problems.
Provided that the fish tank is cleaned on a regular basis, ideally every two to three weeks, than this should prevent any drastic changes in the condition of the aquarium water.
