Skechers USA is aiming to triple its footwear sales in Hong Kong over the next three years with the establishment of a new distribution joint venture.

Skechers Hong Kong, a partnership with local fashion company Onewel Group, will operate in Hong Kong and Macau, and follows the launch of Skechers China Limited earlier this year.

Skechers Hong Kong has already started selling the US company's footwear lines in its own retail stores, and will also sell into the wholesale sector from spring 2009.

The company expects to add 200 new wholesale doors in the next two years, tripling sales within three years.

"There is a tremendous opportunity for Skechers to grow in Hong Kong," said Michael Leung, CEO of Skechers Hong Kong. "We expect Skechers to experience new success in Hong Kong thanks to the full line of styles now available."

Skechers president Michael Greenberg added: "We had a foothold in the region through a distribution partner, and now we have an opportunity to take our business in the Hong Kong region to the next level."

A gala opening was held to mark the launch of the first Skechers store in West Kowloon on 16 August - the first of eight planned openings in 2008.

Another 20 Skechers outlets are planned for the next two years.

Skechers Hong Kong will also open an office and showroom, offering warehouse and office space, in line with the recently completed offices in Guangzhou, China.
