There is little consolation for people with acne, just knowing that it is just as common in adults as it is in teenagers. It can be a trying experience just being a teenager, let alone having to maintain clear skin for those who already have trouble fitting in at school with low self esteem.

Keeping your skin clear doesn't have to be a trying experience with so many new treatment and products to choose from on the market today. The key to healthy clear skin it to choose a skin care regimen that is right for you and the condition that you have. Below are some helpful tips on what is right and wrong to do for keeping acne under control and keeping your skin clear.

First, let's take a look at the things that you "shouldn't" do while trying to maintain clear skin.

Products that you Shouldn't use:

Acne prone, sensitive skin can be irritated by using such products as: astringents, skin toners, rubbing alcohol, facial masks, and even certain hair care products. You should wash your face using a soft touch, taking care to never rub or even scrub the skin on your face. Make sure not to use hot water for rinsing, always use lukewarm water.

You Shouldn't: Overuse treatments or medications

Although it may seem like a good idea to slather on the creams or cleansers to speed up the process, doing so may actually have the adverse effect. Acne will never clear up magically or overnight, no matter how badly we may want it to. It normally takes a month or so to start seeing results after regular use of acne medication, and may take up to a half a year or more before seeing signs of significant improvement.

You Shouldn't: Excessively clean or wash the face

This is a good rule of thumb where less is more. Make sure to wash your face a few times a day and make sure that you do it gently, as this is essential for keeping your skin clear and healthy. There are many times where people make the mistake of scrubbing or repetitively washing their face in a desperate chance to rid their skin of the oils that are clogging their pores. It is a shame that these methods are far from the truth.

Now let's take a look at the things we should do in order to have clear skin and for keeping those outbreaks of acne under control.

You Should always: Make sure that you wear Sunscreen and moisturizer

You should make it a general rule to always wear Sunscreen, not just to avoid acne outbreaks, but for anytime that you are going to be outdoors, no matter what the weather is during anytime of the year. There are harmful rays that the sun produces that cannot only cause premature aging but can also cause you to get skin cancer. Make-up and non-comedogenic moisturizers will not clog up your pores and is generally the top choice to go with for those who suffer from acne.

You Should always abide by the recommended treatments and dosages

There have been many clinical studies and tests that have been tried in the treatment of acne with medications and the dosages that are recommended. If you overuse the medications or overdue the treatments you can actually make it so the medication will not work as it should and you can even cause much unwanted side effects from overuse.

You Should always use care when shampooing or shaving daily

When shampooing oily hair on a daily basis, more important, long hair, you can help to lessen the chances of acne outbreaks that are caused from too much oil around your face. While shaving, you should be sure that the skin is entirely wet with warm water and to use a razor that has a sharp blade, to reduce your chances of getting nicks and cuts. They can lead to skin irritations that you do not need. And, last but not least, NEVER try to shave over the acne itself, in a means to remove it, as this will only irritate the skin worse and make the condition harder to treat.
