Hafjell ski resort is located 15 kilometers from Lillehammer. Its sports history started with a student's championship which was held here in 1939. It was at that time that speed competitions were held here. Then, during 1994 Winter Olympics, sportsmen could participate in slalom competition at one of the Hafjell tracks.
Hafjell is a modern ski resort which is popular with Norwegians and foreigners alike. Oslo Airport is situated 160 km from here. The resort offers many good and varied slopes. Tracks do not intersect or meet at the foot of the slopes, which is very convenient for families and companies with different level of training. Long slopes are ideal for a free ride. The resort and its 19 km of tracks are equipped with snow guns which help keep the level of snow at necessary levels.
The highest point is 1066 meters above the ground. There are 4 "black", 6 "red", 9 "blue" and 9 "green" tracks found on a 33-km territory of the resort. Seven kilometers of these 28 tracks are used for evening skiing. They are illuminated by the largest Norwegian searchlights. By the way, it is in Hafjell that the country's longest (7 km) track is found.
The resort is serviced by 12 lifts. Three of them are intended for professional skiers (two express lifts) and three for children and the beginners. These lifts can carry up to 13500 people per hour. Ski-pass is valid at all the Trollpass Mountains resorts.
Last winter they introduced a new gondola for eight with a capacity of 2000 people per hour. The lower station is located 195 above the ground, and the upper station - at Mosetertoppen 783 meters above the ground. New gondola offers an opportunity to enjoy wonderful views of the valley. The lift is perfect for those who prefer upper slopes.
The resort's ski schools and its Terrain Park with four ski jumps will help you bring your skills to perfection. Group courses take no less than three days, with special attention paid to children and family vacations. The resort offers a range of programs for children of 4 and older.
There is also a snow park which is very popular with tourists. The other resort's attraction is an Olympic bobsleigh track where you can speed up to 120 km/h.
There are several winter resorts found in the Lillehammer region, but Hafjell is the largest. Besides, it offers the widest choice of after-ski winter entertainment: eight restaurants, five bars and discos. At weekends there are various courses organised. It is always a pleasure to learn something new! For instance, you can try water-colour and coal painting, wood carving and much more.
The resort owners are also planning to increase the ski traffic by building new lifts and tracks and development of local infrastructure. For instance, a new restaurant will be opened next to Hafjell Fjellandsby.
Ski season lasts from the middle of November till the end of April.
