The Joys of Taxi-Driving: The World In Your Cab

I had an interesting discussion with a 'fare' the other day: which one of us was the more fortunate? Was it him, jetting off for a month in New Zealand, or was it me, returning an hour and a half later to the comfort of my own home, without having to endure the busiest airport in the world AND 24 hours in the sky in a cramped Aluminium tube?

You can see, I hope, that that added up to some interesting thought processes. Yes, NZ really appeals - so does the idea of a holiday: airport security and the long flight really don't though. One of the real up-sides of driving a cab, particularly one specialising in Airport Transfers, is that you do get the world in your cab. I've only been operating for a few months, but I've already had folk from the USA, Norway, Germany, Turkey and Portugal in my car - all with a tale to tell, and the majority telling it too. I've taken people to the Airport to catch flights to many far-flung destinations: Australia, Ukraine, Malta and Dubai for example. You meet so many different folk, different experiences, different ideals - such a lot to talk about.

Taxi driving is a great job if you love people (most 'fares' want to talk), and it is possible to make a living out of it. I would urge anyone thinking about this as a career option to find out what the procedure is locally for getting licensed and go for it.

Open your ears and your mind and you really will get to travel the world through other people's experiences!
