Affiliate programs are a great way to make more money from your business. First, it's a way to add additional product offerings to your website. Second, you have an opportunity to sell more expensive product offerings on your site. This gives you the opportunity to offer upsells.

On the other hand, if all of your product offerings are expensive, you can also offer a lower priced affiliate product to introduce others to your current product offerings.

Although there are many things you can do to get the most out of affiliate programs, here are five things that will help you make more money:

1. Mix up your offerings.

There are a lot of different types of affiliate programs: Pay Per Click, Pay Per Lead, and Pay Per Sale.

Pay per click offerings are where you get paid every time someone clicks through. Examples include Google Adsense. Pay Per Lead is when the person clicks through and takes an appropriate action. This includes completing an application, signing up for a free offer, or whatever the merchant is offering.

Pay per sale is where you get paid a commission, either a percentage or dollar amount, every time someone clicks through and buys something.

When choosing affiliate programs, make sure you integrate all of these different kinds of offerings. By offering different options, you give visitors a choice. It also gives you an opportunity to more easily cover all of the bases and make money.

2. Add membership sites to the mix.

Membership sites are a way to add a residual income to your site. A residual income is money you continue to make for as long as the person is a customer.

One example of someone who has used membership sites as a way to earn a lot of money is Rosalind Gardner. She started a dating site several years ago. By offering reviews and giving her visitors a lot of options, as well as more information, she makes over six figures on sites related to dating.

You may not be able to find membership sites related to your topic. If you want to create a monthly income and get paid every month whether you work or not, it's definitely worth considering.

3. Look for lifefimte commissions.

Lifetime commissions are where you get paid for all sales on a customer you referred. This is one of the best types of programs to get into. Although it is not as much of a residual income as membership sites, it does mean more money for you.

The issue here for you is cookies. You want to make sure when you sign up for any program that they offer a cookie that lasts as long as possible. Most people won't buy on the first shot. If they return to the site, they usually use the main domain. The longer the cookie is set for your affiliate ID, the more likely you are to get paid for that referral.

Don't leave money on the table. Mix up your offerings, you'll make more money.
