You just got your used Garrett metal detector and you want to go out searching for lost items but you're not sure how to use it. You should be happy to learn, however, that it's very easy to learn how to use a metal detector. Once you pick it up and hold it in your hands, and actually get out and use it, it will all come naturally to you. These types of metal detectors don't require an entire book in order to learn how to use a metal detector. You simply pick it up, turn it on and roam slowly around whatever area you're searching. When you find something, the metal detector will let you know. The only thing it won't do for you is begin digging to unearth whatever it's detected.

Go To The Beach

If this is your first time and you want to learn how to use a metal detector, go to the beach and play around with it. You'll be amazed at how fast you learn the capabilities of your new, or used, metal detector. Turn it on and wave is slowly from side to side as you roam the beach. The reason you go slowly is because you don't want to miss anything. When the metal detector finds something, it will emit a beep.

The stronger the beeping, the closer the object is. Also, the stronger the beeping, the bigger the object is. When you come across something, as you're learning how to use a metal detector, and the signal sounds strong, that's when you want to begin digging. That's why you should always carry some sort of shovel or other digging tool when you're learning how to use a metal detector. You never know when you're going to come across something that requires digging.

What You Can Find

When you're looking for metal objects, you never know what you may come across. You are going to come across a lot of trash when you first learn how to use a metal detector. You're going to find lots of tin cans, and scrap metal and broken radios; things like that. However, you never know when you're going to come across that one piece of jewelry, that one rare coin, or even that chest full of coins that will make your entire metal searching venture worthwhile. You may even be able to retire on the things you find; which is the wish of most people who use metal detectors.
