Goldfish ponds are a great way to add interest to your yard or garden. Here you can ensure your fish in a natural environment as well as add beauty to the outdoor areas of your home.

When selecting a spot for you pond, you want to be sure to you choose a place where there is enough room for the size of pond you want. Also, it's better if you locate it in a level area and you want to be sure you can get electricity out there for the pump and filter.

When it comes to adding fish to your pond, you might want to consider Japanese Koi as these can be quite long-lived and are well suited to living in a goldfish pond. Koi can grow to be very long and are also the longest living breed of goldfish available. Of course, they will cost you a bit more than the regular goldfish you find in a pet store but they are quite beautiful and will be worth it for your pond in the long run.

A good goldfish pond is its own ecosystem and, while it might be fun to feed your fish, they may also be able to get food on their own from nature. So it is a delicate balance between feeding them fish food but not overfeeding them if other food is available in the pond. An excess of food will result in bad water quality stressing out your fish and leaving them vulnerable to disease

One thing you need to consider in your pond is the PH level. You want to get a test kit so that you can test this frequently as if it becomes too acidic or two alkaline you'll have to change out some of the water and use an additive to bring the PH back to the level that your goldfish need.

You can build your own goldfish pond if you have the desire. You simply need to buy a pond liner from your home improvement store and you can even get ones that are preformed or you can buy them to put in your own formed hole. If you're not up for the task, you can always hire someone to do it properly for you.
Don't forget that in addition to the pond liner, you'll need a filter and pump to make sure your pond works properly.
