Lasek: Time Lines

With lasek, it is essential to take time to really pay attention to the details of what your doctor is telling you. Although there are many different questions that you should ask your doctor regarding the eye surgery, you should also concentrate on what to expect in the way of a time line. For many, the thought of going in and having their eyes fixed seems like a simple, straightforward procedure. They think they can walk out with improvement, but that is simply not the case. There is much that you need to know about lasek first.

For example, start with the fact that you need to go in for a consultation first. This will take place days or longer before you will have the lasek eye surgery procedure. It also means that you will need to take into account the number of appointments you need to make. Once you have the surgery, which is likely to be an hour or so long, the next thing to realize is that you won't be able to see for several hours and it may take you several days before you can drive or work after having it done. That is time that you need to account for beforehand.

It also pays to make a difference in the long term time line. Don't assume that within a few days your eyes will be perfect. Sometimes, it takes weeks if not months before the final results are achieved. During that time, your eyes may change enough that you'll need new prescriptions for glasses until they have finished healing.

If you do need to have corrective surgery after this point to repair anything that has happened with the lasek, you can not do this until your prescription has stabilized. This too is a time line that you must take into consideration. Talk with your doctor about your specific situation and the time line that will likely be what you follow.
