High school class rings help the student to celebrate their accomplishment of completing their high school education. Rings may be purchased at some time during the student's high school career and different schools often have different traditions. Students may wear this commemorative jewelry during their high school years and for many years to come.

Traditional class rings have a wide band made of metal and a large jewel in the face of the ring. The name of the high school circles around the jewel and the graduation year is carved into the sides of the band. In addition, there may be symbols that personalize the ring. In addition to the traditional look, many manufacturers offer other very different looks. Some are very different in looks from the traditional class ring.

Rings are generally smaller for girls than for boys. This helps the girl's rings to look more effeminate. In addition, the stones in girl's rings are proportionately smaller.

The metal used in the band of a class ring can be of various materials. They can be made of gold, silver or white gold. In addition, to make rings less expensive, they are sometimes plated and other times made of an alloy.

The jewels in a class ring are often very large. Thus, most class rings use faux jewels to keep them affordable. This means that it is possible to have the stone in any color you desire, including in diamond if so desired. It is common to choose a birthstone, school color or a favorite color for the stone.

The student has the choice of the designs that they would like on either side of the stone. Those designs are molded into the metal and can be a school mascot, sport, club or one of many other designs.

While the traditional ring had an oval stone, today rings can be purchased in many different geometric shapes. These geomantic shapes may be related to the student's own personality. An oval ring may indicate someone who is artistic while a rectangular one indicates a person that is well organized. However, you should choose your ring shape by what you like and not what it says about you.

Many times a representative of one or more ring companies will come to the school for students to purchase rings. The vendor may be at the school before classes begin, during the lunch periods or after school. They will accept the students order and payment and then return in a few months to deliver the rings.

Students and families should know that just because the representative is at school does not mean that this is the only way to purchase a class ring. Rings can be ordered from many jewelry stores or from a department store. You may find a ring that you like more in one of these places.

In addition, today there are many vendors that sell class rings on the internet. You may find the vendor that allows you to design a ring just like you want.

High school class rings are an investment in your high school memory.
