It is quite frustrating for a writer who has a good article in his or her hands, but does not have enough people reading it. If this is happening with you, you will certainly understand what I am trying to say. Just writing a great article with superb facts and figures in it is not enough. You have to make some efforts in order to get people to actually read your article.

When your article is not being read, merely complaining about the website it is placed on and the general Internet readers is not enough. You must think if something is wrong with your article itself. In most cases, if an article is not being read, it is the article that is at fault and not anything else. The following are some important things you ought to do to assure that your article is getting the traffic it deserves.

(1) Use the keyword properly - Writing for the Internet is not the same as writing for a book or for a newspaper. In a book or a newspaper, the article is there for anyone to read. But on the Internet, the article needs to show up in the search results to become accessible to read. This is possible only when the article uses the keyword effectively. A keyword is the set of words that an Internet user will type in Google or any other search engine to search for information. If your article has that keyword, then it will show up in the results.

Effectively, you must use the keyword (of four words) on an average of four times in a 400-word article. This will give you the required keyword density. If the keyword density is good enough, then the article will show up in the first few pages and will have good chances of being opened and read.

(2) Make a good title for the article - The significance of a good title for your article is of paramount importance. The title must contain the keyword; and that too in the first place. Like if the keyword is ‘snorkeling expeditions', a good title would be ‘Snorkeling Expeditions: The New Trend' and not ‘Tips to Remember when Going for Snorkeling Expeditions'.

Your title should tell what the article is about. This is important as it helps the reader decide whether to click it open or not. Many a times, readers miss out on information just because the title is vague. If you have written about French renaissance paintings extensively, but your title just says ‘Renaissance in Art', then how will the reader know it targets French paintings extensively? You will miss out on readership.

(3) Format your article well - You may have written excellent information, but have you formatted it well? Your article must be user-friendly, only then will it generate interest for the reader. Write in a simple language without any frills. Use headings and bullets where necessary. If that is not allowed, then you must break your article into an adequate number of paragraphs. The easier you make it for the readers, the more it will be read.

(4) Select good article directories to submit your articles - Sometimes the articles are not read just because the article directory it is submitted on stops being functional. This is nowhere mentioned on the article directory and people may keep putting in posts on them, and getting frustrated why their articles are not being read. Well, the solution to this would be to check beforehand what the date of the last post was. Some article directories have their last posts made months ago. Avoid these directories, as they are dead ones. Submit your article elsewhere.

Also, avoid submitting on one article directory only. Use at least five different directories for submitting your articles. In this way, if one ceases to function, you have other options.

(5) Make yourself prominent - If possible submit your name and photo with the article. Also provide links to other places where you have submitted your articles if that is allowed. Most free article directories allow this. By doing so, you are making yourself popular. If a reader likes one of your articles, then chances are, they might click on the other links. Thus one article of yours can build traffic for the other articles too. The quality you have written won't be wasted.

Hence, there are many ways in which you can perk up your article. A little bit of trimming if the article is long and improving its overall presentation goes a long way in making the article palatable. After all, what is the use if you have knowledge to impart, but don't have the skills to go about it?
