Summer is creeping upon us slowly and many of us in Fort Mill are starting to plan our summer vacations. This is the best time to start thinking about a pet sitter for your pet while you're away. But how do you know who will be best for you pet? Here are some tips on finding the best pet sitter for your furry kids!

The first step to finding a pet sitter for your pets is to look around online. Many pet sitters in Fort Mill have websites that give you a closer look into their services, their sitters and their prices as well. Look around and write down at least 3 pet sitters that you feel will be a good fit for you and your pets.

Most pet sitters offer a free consultation so that you can meet them and they can meet you and your pets. Schedule a consultation with the 3 that you picked from their websites. Upon meeting them, ask a bit about them such as how long they've been in business, where they live, etc. If you have exotic or unusual pets such as birds, farm animals or special needs dogs or cats, ask the sitter how much experience they have with these type of pets. Be sure you step back and allow the sitter to interact with your pets. Remember, animals have the best judgment and will let you know right away if they like this sitter or not.

Once you have met all 3 of the sitters, sit down and weigh out the pros and cons of each. For instance, maybe one had less experience but your dog seemed to really take to them. Or maybe another lives closer but you're not sure that your dog liked them best. Most pet sitters in the Fort Mill area have relatively similar prices which should make your decision making process that much easier.

If you do have a special needs pet, you will want to choose a pet sitter that you are confident can provide the best care should something go wrong. Your pet's safety and health should take precedence over all else.

Remember to trust your gut..and your pet! You know your pet better than anyone else. Be sure to pay close attention to how your pet interacts with the sitter. If your pet doesn't like them, there's no sense in hiring them. If your dog is the type to take to anyone, go with who you feel most comfortable and confident with.

Most pet sitters want to have a long-lasting relationship so be sure you're choosing someone you can trust for the long haul and be a friend for you and your pets!
