According to Money Digest, "Shares of satellite TV operator DirecTV Group Inc. surged to a 52-week high on December 11, 2006, after Deutsche Bank AG analyst Doug Mitchelson said that the company is best positioned to take advantage of high-definition television. Take-Two Interactive Software Inc. shares dropped 2.2% to $19.66 on December 11, 2006. Carat PLC has raised its forecast for growth in global spending on advertising in 2007 to 5.8%."

Nielsen Co. reported, satellite TV providers DirecTV and EchoStar Communications` Dish Network doubled the number of subscribers due to Katrina`s destruction of cable infrastructure.

More strict credit policies have helped increase the subscribers of satellite TV providers EchoStar Communications and DirecTV Group in the U.S. Both EchoStar`s Dish Network and DirecTV reported stronger-than-expected new subscriber additions. Dish Network added 295,000 subscribers while DirecTV gained 165,000 subscribers.

And although Satellite seems like its popularity is increasing, in the August edition of the Wall Street Journal, Julia Angwin and Andy Pasztor reports that investment analysts are speculating that a merger may be possible as the industry faces intense competition from cable firms. Cable firms are viewed as strong competitors to satellite companies because they can offer television programming, on-demand video, and Internet and telephone services.

No one is for sure where and/or when this war of the airways will end and who will rise to the top. One thing is for sure, the consumers could be the benefit of it, with lower prices and more choices.
