No one wants to have pest problems in the home. Pests typically destroy and damage your home, your yard, and your belongings. One very common type of pest problems is silverfish. Below we will discuss what can be done to get them out.

Silverfish are not harmful to you but they do cause damages. These are insect pests that are thin and about a little less than an inch long. They can get into your food. They eat your wallpaper glue. They ruin your book bindings. They chew up your paperwork and documents at times. They will attract other pests to your home.

The first step to solving your silverfish problem is to seal up your food. These pests love starches. You have tons of food in your kitchen that they like to eat. Put your food in sealed containers as most packaging leaves large gaps that silverfish can get into. Each night take your trash out of your kitchen to cut off their food source.

Don't have standing water in any part of your home. This could be on the counters, in your sinks overnight, in your basement, or under your sinks where you might have a leak. Get rid of standing water as silverfish need water to live. Also lower your humidity in your home. This is typically a basement issue which can be solved with a dehumidifier.

To get rid of the pests, start off with sticky traps. These are very cheap and can be placed around your floors, counters, and cabinets. When silverfish touch this trap, they get stuck onto it. You will also catch other pests with this method.

Secondly you can use something called diatomaceous earth. This is a powder that will dehydrate and cut the silverfish so they will die. It is very cheap and very effective. This is a good purchase since many insect pests will die when in contact with this powder. You can use it indoors or in your yard.
