Breast enhancement has been tried surgically since the 19th century. It all started in France, but due to the lack of technological breakthrough, the doctors then were not able to find surgical implants which could be inserted with ease and minimum incision.

The doctors had initially tried with everything they could fancy as implants, however some were heavy for the skin and the muscles to retain like the ivory and glass balls, the doctors also used chemicals such as paraffin, etc. which again were not able to match up to the expectations and often ended up giving disastrous results. The most initial surgical implant used for breast enhancement was the benign growth on the back of the woman. The doctor used this growth as a surgical implant, which again proved to be unsuccessful.

However, today breast enhancement has become extremely simple with the available implants. There are two types of implants used in breast enhancement. One is a silicone implant and the other one is the saline implant.

Silicone implant has proven to be the most successful because of its characteristic to maintain shape as well has texture of the skin. These implants do not change shape or wrinkle this makes them superior. There is a small downside to the silicone implants, silicone implants are already filled with silicone at the time these are implanted inside the breast, therefore the size of incision required is larger than the one required for saline implants. Breast enhancement through silicone implants has enjoyed the highest success ever of all times.

Another method for surgical breast enhancement is that saline filled implants. This method is most used in USA, the reason being ban on silicone implants in the country. This method involves placing of silicone elastomer shells inside the breast; the shell is empty when placed so the size of incision required is smaller. The shell is then filled up with saline water. There are problems with this method of breast enhancements, since it tends to loose shape or wrinkles. Though it might not make much difference to women who have a thick skin tissue, wrinkling might show or can be felt in women with thin skin tissue.

So far the above two methods of breast enhancement have proven to be the most successful. There are women who are ready to pay for the expensive surgery, in order to look good, i.e. for cosmetic purposes. Women who had to use uncomfortable means to enhance their breasts before can now use these methods and get the look they want.

Cosmetic surgery for breast enhancement involves making an incision into the natural crease under the breast, or another method involves giving an incision in the armpit or areola. You can choose any one of these cuts. It takes about a week for the stitches to dry up and to be removed, therefore you will require almost or a little more than a week to being your normal life after the breast enhancement surgery.
