Majestics Annual Car Show Showcased Vintage Volkswagen Vehicles
According to one of the participants in the Majestics Annual Car Show held in Regina over the weekend, it is time to bring back the original Volkswagen design. Sammy Falastein was one of the 200 Volkswagen owners that have joined the exhibit last Saturday and Sunday held at the IPSCO Place. The exhibit showcases some very interesting selection of trucks, motorcycles, and cars.
At the exhibit one can see big, gas-guzzling fast cars, smaller cars, family cars, and sports cars. There were also some very old cars and new cars present. Mr. Falastein joined the exhibit in order to show off his vintage 1960 Volkswagen, which is still in its top condition. He also showed his collection of over 500 toys and miniature Volkswagens.
Falastein said, "I've liked Volkswagens since I was a little boy. My uncle used to own one and I fell in love with it." Mr. Falastein obtained his replacement parts from suppliers of VW aftermarket part components since his 1960 vintage Volkswagen is no longer in production.
Mr. Falastein also said that despite the great number of Volkswagen cars manufactured today, he still wants to see new cars having exactly the same design as the original Volkswagen manufactured back in the 30s. The increasing gas prices and mounting issues about those big gas-guzzling cars damaging the environmental, Mr. Falastein believes that Volkswagen could be just the very solution that we need.
Mr. Falastein further explain that a Volkswagen equipped with only 36 horsepower engine is capable of providing motorists with 50 to 55 miles of travel per gallon of gas. He also added that Volkswagen is not only fast but very strong.
Despite the remarkable performance and power that Volkswagen cars possess critics have always complained about the noise generated by these vehicles. Mr. Falastein said that he is aware of the noise but unlike Volkswagen's critics he considers the noise as music to his ears.
The roar of a 1970 Plymouth Duster rolling down the street is likened to the music that Rob Tangeman likes to hear. He said, "They're not making these anymore, they're getting rare." Despite the age of his Plymouth Duster he still loves using as his regular mode of transport. In terms of mileage Mr. Tangeman said that he still gets 10 to 12 miles to the gallon, but then he said who is keeping track anyway?
Dennis Banick another participant in the exhibit was also proud in displaying his 1972 Oldsmobile Toronado which doesn't look like a gas-saver. Banick said that his Toronado has a gas mileage of 20 miles per gallon which he thinks is not that bad.
The Toronado has a length of almost six meters and is comparable to the size of a boat. Critics think that it is better put out to the sea than be allowed to roam downtown Regina.
