Stuttering In The After Life

I have heard many reasons as to why people would like to eradicate their stutter; it could be to improve their career prospects, to help them to gain confidence, to make socialising easier and more enjoyable, plus many many more. I have to say the most bizarre and possibly most interesting reason came from a seventy year old man who came to see me a few years ago.

This was back in the year 2001. I received a letter in the post from seventy year old man who lived in London . In the letter he wrote how he had heard about my services in the newspaper and that he would like to come and meet me. He stated that he had had a stutter since the age of five and that he was determined to find a cure for it, he was hoping that I would be able to provide the answers and techniques that he was looking for. I wrote a letter back to him however in truth did not expect to hear from him again.

How wrong was I? Around three weeks later I received another letter from this gentleman stating that he wanted to attend a course and that he had enclosed his deposit.

I was now more than intrigued to meet this person. I had virtually given up all hope of ever finding a cure for stuttering when I was in my early twenties; he was still searching and was thinking in a positive manner at the age of seventy - truly remarkable.

On the morning of the first day of the course he arrived very early and seemed quite tense, this however is quite normal. After only a short while he became quite relaxed and started to tell me about himself.

On the third day of the five-day course I asked him what his main reason for attending the course was. I asked the question in a jovial manner and stated that I was just curious. He laughed and replied:

"Mr Hill, I am unable to tell you exactly why, but I know for sure that there is a life after death and I do not want this stutter to continue in the after life."

I was most intrigued to find out how and why he "knew" but decided not to ask. He truly was an amazing person and I thoroughly enjoyed the time I spent with him.
