Should Female Asthma Patients Use a Hormone Substitute Treatment?

I had previously suffered from asthma attacks for years while I was a kid, teenager and young adult, but thankfully, owing to some simple (albeit common-sense and natural) techniques, I've since been able to overcome not only the bouts of asthma attacks, but also have been able to control my acne, lethargy and I must add depression anxiety problems.

Perhaps this all was meant to be because in doing so, I now feel obligated to inform as many people as I can through the internet about ways of alleviating their asthma symptoms.

Now, While surfing the web recently researching asthma treatment solutions and attacks related to asthma worsened by air-borne contamination, I came across the question on which the caption above is based on, and was immediately intrigued enough to look into it.

From studies, it turns out that taking hormone substitute treatment (aka hormone replacement therapy (HRT) may increase the risk of developing asthma, according to the Harvard Nurses' Health Study (2000).

Now, you may ask what is this HRT in the first place?

Well, Hormone substitute treatment (HRT) is medication containing one or more female hormones, commonly estrogen plus progestin (synthetic progesterone). Some women receive estrogen-only therapy (usually women who have had their uterus removed).

This therapy is most often used to treat symptoms of menopause such as "hot flashes," vaginal dryness, mood swings, sleep disorders, and decreased sexual desire. This medication may be taken in the form of a pill, a patch, or vaginal cream.

From the descriptions above, it might be safe to say that yes, there might be a non-beneficial (or detrimental) link between hormone substitute treatment and asthma control.

So for female asthma patients, if HRT aka hormone substitute treatment is something that you may be considering to undergo for a health related problem, be sure to be fully informed by your doctor on all the procedures, protocol and criteria attached to the process AND be sure to tell them of your respiratory condition so the very best option is taken in ensuring that you are not overly affected by the process.

Just wanted to look out for you all you know.
