Buying Refurbished Equipment
Many times a used and then reconditioned equipment is sold as a refurbished one. A reconditioned equipment is one that is used by someone else for a certain period of time and then it is repaired, not necessarily by the manufacturer, and resold by a retailer. This type of equipment has the maximum risk as one will never know the impact of aging of the equipment or product as a result of previous use.
A refurbished product is normally returned for some reason or the other to the manufacturer. The manufacturer then retests the product, repairs any damage or defect and then repacks it in a new packaging.
Once the original factory seal is broken, the manufacturer is bound by law to sell the product as a refurbished one. These products are sold at a much lower price than a new one. A refurbished product may or may not come with a return policy and / or warranty. This is at the discretion of the manufacturer.
Though refurbished products can over money saving opportunity, the risks involved are to high. You will never know whether you are purchasing a reconditioned equipment or a refurbished product. The risks are even higher if there is no return policy or warranty. Getting a "like new" equipment or product is not similar to buying a new equipment or product. It is always advisable to OEM products to avoid losing out on your money. In the end you will be satisfied that your money was spent for a worthwhile product or equipment where you did not have to compromise in purchasing something with unknown mechanical problems or defects.
