Surgical solutions for increasing penis size are gaining in popularity. Approximately 250,000 men across the globe have undergone this surgery and of these, half have been performed in the United States. Penile enlargement surgery in its traditional form can be one of two procedures - that of increasing the length or width of the penis. Some men decide to have both procedures but they are usually not performed at the same time due to the fact that risks and complications are greater when they are performed at the same time.

Surgery typically involves snipping the suspensory ligament that attaches the penis to the pubic bone and moving skin from the abdomen to the penile shaft. The suspensory ligament stabilizes and gives an upward tilt to an erect penis. When this ligament is cut, the penis may look longer because more of it hangs outside the body. But cutting the suspensory ligament can cause an erect penis to wobble and position itself at odd angles, particularly when erect. The procedure may result in scar tissue and the erect penis will point down.

Another surgical technique is known as a dermal implant. Girth and length can be increased by transplanting fat cells from other parts of the body to the penis. As the size of head of the penis cannot be increased the results can look rather odd. Sometimes the distribution of the grafted cells results in clumping and a gives a far from smooth result.

Surgical solutions for increasing penis size have come a long way and have done a world of good for men who truly need it. Surgery is performed on men born with a congenital abnormality, who have suffered an injury, or who have severe erectile dysfunction. In all these scenarios, men start essentially with a non-functioning penis for sexual purposes that the potential benefits of surgery greatly outweigh the risk.

Not so for most men seeking something larger. "The surgeries to perform elective penile enhancement that are advertised to enlarge a normal, functional penis do not work and... shouldn't be performed," is the informed opinion of surgeon involved in human reproductive system surgery.

Add to that penis enlargement surgery prices (between $4000 and $10,000 or even $15,000) and you have the complete picture of a procedure which is both unsafe and extremely expensive. Penis enlargement surgery prices alone should deter any sane person from undergoing such an extreme procedure for the sole purpose of enlargement.

But there are many men who want a bigger penis. Is there anything safe for them to try? Penis enlargement surgery alternatives range from male enlargement pills/patches/oils to pumps to enlargement devices and exercises. Some of them are worth trying, some not. The only effective and safe penis enlargement surgery alternatives are traction and jelqing devices.

Stretching consists of attaching a penis stretcher or "extender" device to the penis for set periods of time. The device exerts a constant traction on the penis, which, in theory, lengthens and widens the penis. The traction causes the cells in the penis to split, reform and expand.

Jelqing is a method intended to enlarge the penis by increasing the blood pressure in the penis, with the goal of permanently increasing the maximum erect size of the penis. This technique, also called "milking", involves wrapping the thumb and index finger around the penis while semi-erect and repeatedly drawing them away from one's body to force blood into the glans, thus encouraging more vascularity in the corpus cavernosa and associated tissues. However, there are also jelqing device.

Enlargement devices are easy to use and they have been proved time and again to be a safe and effective method for penis enlargement.
