They include Google, Yahoo, Hotmail, AOL and a few others. Website owners are constantly pushing each other to get the top spot on the search engines in their category.

There is one thing that everyone will have to know about SEO. Only if your site is listed among the top twenty ranks of the engine's listings, it means your site is on the top. You will have to remember that not many people have the patience to keep looking for information on all sites. They might just skim through the first few and leave it at that. There are two ways you can look at it.

There are free as well as paid ways to work with SEO. There are many companies who work exclusively with SEO and they will offer their services to individuals and companies. Sometimes, if a person does not have the money to pay such companies, he can try and increase rankings himself. There are various free ways to get noticed on search engines.

There are many experts in SEO who would have learned the tricks of the trade by just using the Internet constantly. Some of them are generous enough to share their ideas with the public. If you are not familiar with how SEO works, you can look for some tips, which will surely help you. SEO will require a lot of time and patience and you will have to learn it like an art.

It could take some few weeks before the ranks of the site move up, but your effort has to be consistent. This would make a lot of difference to your site position.
