"The Best is yet to Come," a song made popular by Frank Sinatra is one that invokes truth, especially for retirees. One of the definitions used to describe the word retirement is "withdrawal into privacy or seclusion." This is certainly further from the truth for most retirees. It is a time of jubilance and celebration. After working most of your lives, you can now look forward to a new life; a second career, if you will, filled with new adventures, excitement, and yes - even an ideal place to retire.

Fulfilling life long dreams which have been on hold; no longer having to answer to the demands placed upon you, but free to explore life to its fullest is more clearly defined today. Whether you decide to remain where you have lived your entire life; or follow your dream of living in a different country; or choosing a state where the mountains are your backdrop, and nature is your friend; you alone have been empowered to decide. What an exhilarating feeling!

For those who have articulated there was so much they've always wanted to do, but life got in the way - they have suddenly reached a crossroad. The mindset has changed. Instead of looking back, retirees are reaching forward to the place within where their enthusiasm had become dormant, and has come alive again. You know that while enjoying life encompasses many things; and there is no limit to what you can do or accomplish as a retiree. The possibilities are endless. You can pursue such fields as education; the arts; music; small home business; health; or whatever you have dreamed of as a second career. Or you can travel; tour the world; and explore different cultures and ideologies. Perhaps you can finish the book you have been working on all these years, or write a new book on your travels around the world.

Moreover retiring to a college town can afford you the opportunity to increase your knowledge; explore new areas in science or literature; or perhaps become an adjunct teacher in a college as well. Participate in the new community by opening a store or fully engaging in community activities. Offering your time to serve on community boards or vie for a seat on legislation committees is another avenue to explore.

While choosing a place to retire to is an important decision, remember you are bringing a lifetime of experience which can be shared with others in the community. Whether you are content with settling in a small town; a large city; or another country - the ideal place to retire is waiting for you. All you have to do is choose. The best is yet to come!
