Tenerife has long been a favourite destination for many Europeans, not least because of its warm climate. Tenerife's geographical position off the coast of Africa, well south of Europe itself, ensures not only this but also the fact that is governed by the Spanish, although much autonomy is given to the Canary Islands, so having a Spanish way of life and culture.

Many of the large number of visitors every year have liked the island so much that they have bought places to stay when they are here, and many people have just decided to live here full time. The large ex-pat community is attractive to many whilst the traditional island life and culture goes on, seemingly, unchanged for generations.

Houses, apartments, penthouses and studios are all available and go from the small to the very large, in terms of both money and property. There is a terrific variety of different landscapes on the island both by the sea and inland, and a tour of the island will, no doubt, show you the difference between the main areas of population and the much quieter inland regions.

The hotter and dryer southern side of the island is where the majority of resorts and population are located, and therefore where much of the Tenerife property of interest to the northern European is found. The tourist season is basically all year round in the Canaries, and the island of Tenerife is one of the most popular. Such things as being able to play golf or lie on the beach in the sunshine during the European winter, has ensured continued interest for many years in the possibility of actually living, or indeed retiring here.

The choice of Tenerife property
available is quite amazing. There will be something to anyone's taste on the island. Many of the inland properties have stunning views out over the sea and the valleys, whilst more coastal properties centre around the resorts and towns all around the island. With the spread of tourism so it has been necessary for the government to prevent excess development as well as ensuring that the quality of any new development is high, retaining the good image the island has justly earned. New golf courses with their adjacent new houses, apartments and villas are also springing up in new places.

For the buyer this long term good reputation along with the fact that a mature property market has developed over the years, gives you more choice as to availability, quality, and location as well as its saleability as an investment. For many people the geographical and therefore meteorological benefit of being South of Europe gives the Canaries a distinct advantage over the ‘Med' as an all year round place to live, avoiding the sometimes very chilly few months of the Mediterranean winter.

Tenerife property
prices reflect, to a certain extent, this ‘extended season', and are very likely to continue to do so in comparison with Mediterranean destinations where there is a closed ‘season' for the winter months. Property on the island is very affordable though, and some good bargains are always to be found.
