Probably one of the most terrifying liquids that can spill onto your carpet is red wine. Its color and lasting stain will definitely haunt a carpet owner.

Red wine spilling on your carpet could most likely result in one of two things: First, rotating the carpet and placing the stain under furniture that can cover it, or second, totally replacing the carpet. Well hold your horses! It's not time to panic just yet. There are ways for you to save that carpet by using simple ingredients you can easily find in your own home. If you act fast and follow these simple instructions, then you would not have to worry at all.

Home Miracle Wonder Essentials:

1. White Wine. Pour a small amount over spilled red wine. Now isn't it weird for you to pour wine over spilled wine? Not in this case. If you've spilled red wine onto your carpet, white wine is your best friend. It will help dilute the strong dark color of red wine making it less likely to stain.

2. Paper Towels or Clean Cloth. Get as much as you can and blot the area where the wine has spilled. Remember to blot and not scrub because scrubbing not only spreads the liquid but more important, it may damage your carpet fibers. Blot until the paper towels or cloth no longer lifts up any wine when pressure is applied.

3. Salt. Salt naturally absorbs liquids. Put a little salt over your stain to keep wine from setting. You can put salt over the spill while you prepare and get other cleaning materials and solutions that you may need.

4. Club Soda. Unflavored club soda has two important effects when applied that help in the prevention or removal of stains. When poured onto the stain, club soda gives a carbonation effect which helps lift stains from the carpet fibers. It also has salt, therefore giving the same effects mentioned above.

5. Hydrogen Peroxide + Carpet Shampoo or Dish Soap. Combine 1 teaspoon of carpet shampoo or dish washing liquid soap and 1 cup of hydrogen peroxide in a small container. Use a sponge to blot the affected area with this solution which will help clean off the red wine and prevent stains. After, sponge with warm water and then blot again until dry.

The most important information you need to remember to avoid damage to your carpet is to act and clean the affected area immediately. Don't wait until it dries and leaves a permanent mark. Act quickly and get whatever miracle wonder essential you have in your home to clean that spilled red wine.
