A key of impact (also knows like key of air, air gun, or gun right in some contexts, as the gun of rattle in some countries) is a machine tool of socket spanner designed to provide the high torque produced with the minimal effort by the user, by storing energy in a revolving mass, then providing it suddenly to the axis of output. The compressed air is the source of the most common energy, although the electric power or hydraulics is also employed, with the electric devices without wire becoming increasingly popular lately.

[1] The keys of impact are usually used in many industries, such as the repair of, the maintenance motor vehicles of the heavy, produced material (often called the "impulse machines" and conceived for the produced precise couple), principal project of construction, and any other example where a high result of couple is necessary. The keys of impact are available in each standard face of drive of socket spanner, from small ¼"; tools of drive for small the assembly and disassembling, until 3.5"; and of greater square orders for principal construction.

[2] The keys of impact are one of the generally most used tools of air, and are found in the store of practically each mechanic. In function, a revolving mass (the hammer) is accelerated by the engine, storing the energy, then suddenly connected to the axis of output (the anvil), creating an impact of high-couple. The mechanism of hammer is designed such as after having provided the impact, one again allows the hammer to freely turn, and does not remain unlocked. With this design, the only force of reaction applied to the body of the tool is the engine accelerating the hammer, and the operator smells the very small couple thus, though a very high maximum couple is provided to the casing.

It is similar to a conventional hammer, where the user applies small, constant force to balance the hammer, which produces of a very large impulse when the hammer runs up against an object. Energy is stored with time, allowing a very strong, but short impulse of output to be produced of a relatively weak, but constant force of entry. The design of hammer requires a certain minimum couple before one allows the hammer to separately turn of the anvil, making cease hammering and to lead to the place without jolt the tool the fastener so only bottom couple is necessary, quickly installation/removing the fastener.
