Murcia City Spain (one of my favourite Cities anywhere!) is a City of many faces and boasts a rich mix of historical architecture, modern shops and enough variety of hotels, restaurants and bars/nightlife to suit anybody! Getting a hotel is perhaps easier than in many major cities and good value can be had. No matter what your mood (sometimes I just fancy a quiet meal, sometimes I'm ready to enjoy a concert followed by some late night tapas) Murcia can accommodate your fancy..

The Casino (built in 1847), in Trapería, has a magnificent Arab patio, a rococo ballroom and lots of other beautifully laid out halls and rooms with fantastic ornate plaster work. Really it's more of a luxury Gentlemen's Club than what you'd think of as a casino today but pay it a visit if you can, it's Stunning!

The Cathedral is the centrepiece of the City in truth. It dates from the 14th to the 18th centuryies and really epitomises the various building styles of those times. There are four features of this cathedral of special interest to the enthusiast: It dates from 14th to 18th centuries. A brilliant summing- up of the styles of more than five centuries, this wonderful architectural gem boats four outstanding elements: The Baroque façade of the "Puerta del Perdón"; The Renaissance "Junterones" chapel; The cathedral tower which is 96 metres high and contains 25 bells: Also you musn't forget the Diocesan Museum.

Other architecturally interesting places well worth a look at are the Teatro Romea and the City Hall (Ayuntamiento), some of whose classical facades date from the 14th century. You can also check out Murcia's amazing artistic heritage in many museums, art galleries and exhibition halls that combine to form an important part of the city's lively cultural life: Salzillo Museum (what a sculptor this guy was!); The Archaeological Museum; The Museum of Fine Arts; The Bullfighting Museum (some exhibits for the strong stomach...); The Ramón Gaya Museum (dedicated to this local artist in 1990, he was 82 then.. There are lots of works from other artists as well. One of Ramón's main influences was Rembrandt - to give you an idea of the style..; The Palacio Almudí Art Centre; and so the list goes on.. If culture and architecture are your thing then you'll have a wonderful time in Murcia.

An interesting feature here to remind us of Murcia's trading past is some of the streets are named after the wares that were once sold along them, for example Plateria (silver), Traperia (cloth).

Hotels in Murcia cover the full spectrum of prices to suit all pockets from a little bed and breakfast hotel to 5 Star opulence (follow the links to see detailed information) and restaurants abound in the many little squares to please all tastes and wallets. If you just fancy a good old drink and would like to check out some cool and some not so cool bars then click here.

Shopping is a particular joy for my Wife more than me. (I'm not on my own here I bet..) She who must be obeyed tells me that she doesn't have to go anywhere else to buy shoes so that says to me the shopping experience in Murcia must be pretty impressive!! No, seriously, there are lots of nice shops and anything you could need is available here. There are some really cool clothes shops and the staff here are very friendly although in some it would be best if you had a tiny bit of Spanish.. All in all, Murcia City Spain is a great place to visit or live near which is what I do..

Get the best of all worlds and live in a Polaris world golf resort near Murcia. You can't beat it! :-)
