Have you been the victim of an eBay thief? An eBay thief will usually use some type of phishing scam as his main tool. Identity theft is the fastest growing crime in America. 1.) Main Tool for an eBay thief? The phishing scam. They send you an email. They want you to take the bait. With this, they are usually looking for your credit card or debit card information. The more spam the send the better their chances are. It's all about the numbers. If you are on eBay, they will pretend to be a customer or a member themselves. They will also send you email asking you to respond and if you don't our feedback will be affected negatively. Other times, they will pretend to be eBay themselves. What they will do is send you an email asking you to update your account information. Whatever you do, do not give any personal information. If it's from eBay, then you can type the url in yourself manually.
2.) Watch out for emails from eBay members. The eBay thief will send you links in an email, but don't buy it. If they have an inquiry it should appear in your eBay account.
3.) Sometimes people hold fake auctions. An eBay thief will steal other member's passwords by using phishing. They even have fake websites that will gather personal information. Then they will sell fake items at high prices or they will change the prices of items already up for sell.
4.) Sometimes people hold auctions that you to sympathize for them. They want you to feel sorry for them and guilty. For example, they might ask you to buy something because they lost their job.
5.) There is a 3 monkey's auction. Why 3 monkeys? Because you will hear no evil, see no evil, speak no evil. These auctions hold "surprise" items in which the person sells something without being able to tell what's in the box.

Be aware of these tactics used by an eBay thief. The more you know the better off you'll be.
