One of the most effective natural anti-aging skin care ingredients available is shea butter. Shea butter helps to improve skin tone and elasticity while moisturizing to help skin appear smoother, making wrinkling less noticeable. Shea butter also helps to even skin tone and eliminates rough, scaly, dry skin; making skin softer and improving suppleness. Although shea butter should not be used instead of sunscreen, shea butter does offer some sunscreen protection, making it a beneficial moisturizing choice to help protect skin. (However, the sunscreen protection offered by shea butter is not sufficient to prevent sun damage. It is important to use a sunscreen during sun exposure to prevent skin damage.)

In order to experience the anti-aging skin benefits of shea butter, look for products with high concentrations of shea butter, (20% or more). Many products on the market have the name "shea butter", but the actual amount of shea butter in the product is not sufficient to be be beneficial. If the shea butter concentration is not listed on the label, you can also determine whether a product contains a high concentration of shea butter by reading the ingredient listing. Ingredients are listed in order of amount of the ingredient in the product. The ingredients with the highest concentration are listed first, with the lowest concentration ingredients listed toward the end of the list. Products with shea butter listed near the beginning of the ingredients list offer the most anti-aging skin care properties provided by shea butter, and are the best choices for anti-aging skin care.

Which type of shea butter has the highest concentration of anti-aging nutrients, raw or refined?

Raw Shea Butter:

Raw shea butter offers the highest amount of anti-aging nutrients. This shea butter has not been exposed to a refinement process, therefore all of its natural skin care benefits remain intact. However, raw shea butter has a characteristic odor that may be unpleasant to some people.

Refined Shea Butter:

Although some of the vitamin and nutrient content of shea butter is reduced during the refinement process, excellent anti-aging skin care results can still be obtained with naturally refined shea butter. Refined shea butter is almost odorless, making it an excellent choice for blending with pure, aromatic essential oils and, as a key ingredient in unscented skin car products.

Shea Oil (Shea Olein):

Shea oil is a powerful anti-aging skin care ingredient. Produced during the process of making shea butter, shea oil remains liquid at room temperature. (Shea oil does thicken or become solid when cold). It contains the antioxidant rich nutrients found in shea butter but the oil is much lighter in weight, making it a superb light moisturizer. A great deal more shea butter is produced during the processing of shea nuts than shea oil, making shea oil more expensive and rare.

Pure shea butter and moisturizers containing this nutrient rich butter and oil offers many superb anti-aging skin care benefits. These natural skin care ingredients are excellent choices for an anti-aging skin care regimen that also includes gentle cleansing and exfoliation. Shea butter works to keep skin looking radiant, healthy, and youthful naturally.
