Different cake designers from the local Houston wedding industry are speaking out about what's hot for today's bride. From flavor and color to design and inspiration, Houston's bakers are taking the cake!

Claudia de Velasco of Cakes To Remember says, "Brides have been turning to more "non-traditional" flavors, as opposed to the traditional white cakes. While white cakes are still popular, such as our signature Almond cake, the trend is switching over to chocolate and red velvet." When asked about the inspiration behind wedding cake design, everything from Magazines to a bride's ethnicity came into play. Most brides in Houston tend to make their dreams a reality by turning to pretty pictures. In cake design it's important to seek out a designer that not only satisfies your taste buds, but satisfy your dreams as well.

Casey McNabb from Divine Cakes & Catering says, "in the past couple of years I have seen a major change in the styles of cakes. It was at one time very popular to have your cake very glamorized by using the staircase coming down both sides of the cake; the bigger the better. Now, Bride's are going for very simple but elegant styles." With the onset of designer cakes from creators such as Martha Stewart, we are seeing a rise in unusual toppers, unique colors and shapes, and different flavors of each layer. The trend in the wedding cake industry is to capture the personality and wishes of the bride and groom.
