Modular connector -These are electrical connectors originally used in telephone wiring. These are still used for the same but also in other purposes as well. A modular connector's advantage over many others because of small size and ease of plugging and unplugging. Many heavy connectors have changed to modular connectors. Probably the most well known applications of modular connectors is for telephone jacks and for Ethernet jacks, which are mostly modular connectors. Modular connectors initially used in the Registered Jacks
Modular connectors are mostly in four sizes: 4-, 6-, 8-, and 10-position. A position where conductor pin has been used . It is not mandatory that all positions will be used rather a connector can have any even number of conductors. Unused positions are usually the outermost positions. The connectors are designed so that a plug can fit into any jack that has at least the number of positions as the plug. Where the jack has more positions than the plug, the outermost positions are unused. Some manufacturers of eight position jacks now explicitly warn that they are not designed to accept smaller plugs without damage.
Modular connectors have gender. The male connector is called a plug, while the female connector is called a jack or sometimes a socket.

Features
1.Fast Ethernet Support
Modular connectors fully support Fast Ethernet transmission.

2. Sub miniature Design Contributes to Saving Space in the Equipment
Having built-in optical indicators, with very less height, width and depth modular connectors can be used in extremely limited spaces.

3. Built-in Optical Indicators
Optical indicators help saving space on customer's compared with LED type indicators, they do not emit any electrical noise.

4. EMI protection
Metal shield covers the outer surfaces of the connectors assuring complete protection against electromagnetic noninterference-in multiple shield and ground contacts assure reliable connection with the mounting panel as well as with the mating connectors.

5. Environmental considerations
Because of Lead free plating they protect environment.

6. Pulse Transformers Support Fast Ethernet
These are built-in insulation transformers and common mode choke coils.

7. Protected latch tab
Flexible case extends over the release tab preventing the possibility of breaking-off during handling of the complete cable assembly.

8. Termination of conductors
Self located 24 AWG conductors (solid or stranded) are terminated against pre-inserted contacts using simple tooling.
