If I were to ask you, how nutritious are the meals that you consume are how would you respond? This is a very important question that the majority of us never confront.

When it comes to food habits we may be opposed to change but a little everyday logic goes a long way.

Today fewer and fewer families now eat meals prepared from fundamental ingredients on a regular basis. In otherwords, whole foods are very foreign to the
average American family.

Most of us know that eating fast food every day of the week is not healthy. We know that a diet low in carbohydrates and those containing full fat dairy products and fatty meats are plainly not the way to a slimmer figure. We have to face facts and realise that the only way forward is to make smart choices and a have a sensible eating plan if we want to lose weight and keep the pounds off.

The good news is that eating diets that are high in fiber offer several solutions for individuals looking to lose weight. First, fiber is a bulking agent. When you consume fiber it actually expands in the digestive system and adds bulk to the stool. The process of the fiber expanding in the gut acts as an appetite suppressant. Also, fiber absorbs toxins in the digestive system so that they can be purged from the body. This action in and of itself allows the body to take weight off with less stress.

These measures will help you decide when and where you can make minor changes, which are likely to have considerable effects. Choose the healthy option; replace that sugary soda at lunch, with an unsweetened tea with lemon. Instead of a heavy salad dressing, choose a low fat option and use less. However, first and foremost consume fiber with your meals. High Fiber Foods are very satisfying.

Impulse buying of unhealthy foods when shopping can be avoided by planning your meals ahead. Write a list of options, which are well-balanced and low in fat and calories. This should include plenty of whole grains (brown rice whole wheat pasta, legumes), low-fat dairy products, healthy nuts for snacking, lean meats and chicken, fresh or frozen fruits and vegetables. As fiber has been shown to support weight loss (it absorbs calories and directs them out of the body), make sure you include plenty of high fiber foods.

It is also very important to keep track of your portion sizes.

You will find that a diet high in fiber has several important benefits.

High fiber foods are low in calories. You can consume large portions, without the associated fear of high calories. Fibrous foods such as fruits, grains, whole foods and vegetables are also very filling. They expand in your digestive system, and even promote the release of satiety hormones. In this regard they are the ultimate tool in the dieters arsenal. You eat less, and feel full longer.
