If you think that you can only get a yeast infection through contact with someone who has one, think again there are many different causes of yeast infections. Oral contraceptives, steroids, your menstrual cycle, diabetes, soap, certain personal care products and even tight clothing can all be contributing factors. There are also a lot of different ways to treat the condition. Many are unaware that you can use diet to treat yeast infection as well.

A yeast infection diet could also be properly termed detoxification. Yeast infections are caused by the out of control growth of the microorganism Candida Albicans, which is naturally occurring in the human body. There are a few possible variations to the yeast infection diet, but by following the diet strictly, you can begin seeing results in as little as three weeks.

One of the most important elements of this diet is plenty of water. Like detoxing in general, water is important because it helps you to flush toxins from your body. Fruit juice and green tea are also good to incorporate in to your fluid intake. However, water should make up the bulk of your fluids, drink eight to ten glasses daily.

Fresh, unprocessed foods are also important. Steer clear of high fat, processed foods; this is beneficial not only for your yeast infection, but your overall health. Be sure not to overcook your food. food loses much off its nutritional value when it is cooked, so cook only until done and no longer. Sauteed or steamed is the way to go here; with vegetables, you don't even need to cook them or just eat them raw whenever possible. Avoid vegetables with high sugar content like potatoes, carrots, corn, onions and sweet potatoes.

Eat lots of garlic; this vegetable has antbacterial properties which can help to control the growth yeast. East lots of fresh greens and cut down on red meat. Fish, poultry, lamb and eggs are okay in small amounts; it is said that a serving of meat for this diet should be no larger than half the size of your palm. Eating more meat than this may be detrimental to your digestion while trying to fight off a yeast infection.

There might be other foods which you would like to keep in your diet; this is OK as long as you keep portions small and eat them only in moderation. For instance, yogurt is OK as are brown rice and kasha (buckwheat).

As far as condiments are concerned, use sea salt and pure olive oil in fact, you can have all the olive oil you like! Fresh ginger is also good and can also help tame the growth of Candida. You can use ginger in salads, soups, meat dishes and even tofu dishes. Ginger has the added benefit of being good for your digestion.
