Beach lovers away for the beach are literally like fish out of water. But for those longing for a touch of salt and sand in between seaside vacations, there are ways to bring a little of the beach home by adding these titles to your bookshelf:

The Song of the Sea by D. Morgan: Composed primarily of quotations, accompanyied by pale New England-esque paintings, The Song of the Sea captures the essence of sea and sand. The images are soft, sandy seaside neutrals, New England watercolors, weathered and wonderful. Seashells and gulls and tall, windblown dune grasses come to life on the book's pages.

Pure Sea Glass by Michael LaMotte: Featuring photography by Celia Pearson, this is a wonderful tribute to a beachcomber's prized find. Part history, part reference, and part photo essay, Pure Sea Glass is a beautiful hardcover that would make a great coffee table book. Sifting through pages rife with gorgeous, full-color photographs is a little like bringing the art of beachcombing right to your own home.

Beaches by Gideon Bosker and Lena Lencčk: Celebrating seascapes around the world with stunning photography, this book brings home the seashore in its many moods. From serene waterscapes to images of crashing waves, whatever side of the ocean you love, you'll find it in these pages. Interspersed between incredible photographs are bits of seashore folklore and tidbits of information. Beach lovers are sure to find a bit of the shore they so love within these pages.

Or how about a children's book? With their enchanting storylines and page after page of wonderful, whimsical artwork, children's books are a wonderful way to capture a place that you love, such as the beach. Consider The Lighthouse Cat by Sue Stainton with illustrations by Anne Mortimer or Sneakers, the Seaside Cat by Margaret Wise Brown and illustrated, as well, by Anne Mortimer. Another great children's book set along the shore is Riptide by Frances Ward Weller and illustrated to perfection by Robert J. Blake. So don't discount children's books when you're looking to bring a little bit of the seashore home with you.

When you can't be at the beach, sometimes a book that captures the essence of the shore is the next best thing. So why not fill your bookshelves with words and images that bring a little bit of the wind and the waves right into your own home?
