If you do an Internet query on "money making opportunities," you get 497,000 hits. If you query "money making secrets" on the Internet, you get 280,000 hits. Obviously, there are a lot of people offering their "secrets" to help you make money online. The only problem is that when you start looking at these "secrets," you discover that they are not secrets at all.
What you will find, is that these "secrets" are just time-tested business sense. You will learn that you have to come up with a "promotion" to attract people to your website. Once you have attracted them to your website, you need to convince them, with more offerings, to provide you with their name and e-mail address. All businesses, whether online or offline, need a list of potential customers. One of the "secrets" is that the money is in the list.
Now you know that the "secrets" that you have been searching for online have been there ever since business began. The primary "secret" is to find something that people want, get them to visit you and provide you with their details. Then sell repeatedly to them to convert them from interested prospects to confirmed customers.
However, the big "secret" that is often missing from much of the online information has been around offline for centuries - be different. Do not imitate your competitors, instead stand out from the crowd. Do something different so that everyone remembers you.
An example of this that illustrates my point well is the New York cab driver who gets the name and address of every passenger. Then each Christmas these former passengers get a card from him. Guess what! People remember him and recommend him. He gets most of his fares from referral business. Have you ever had a cab driver send you a card at Christmas?
Online everyone is similar. New online businesses follow the "rules" set by the gurus and experts. This results in most web sites looking the same. They all have a great offer and a box that you can put your identification into. To top it all off, many of them even use the same templates for their sign up boxes and the layout of their web pages. If you follow the "rules" that are part of the "secrets" you will end up following the pack. As a result, you will not be noticed. If you truly want to make it online, you have to be different.
So stand out from the crowd. Be different. Not just visually, but in the way you approach your readers. Do innovative or different things. You will be noticed and remembered. Online that is 90% of the battle.
