Pallets- Plastic Vs Wood

It is amazing how much people really rely on these days. More things are being taken for granted nowadays. Pallets are very handy when it comes to transported goods from one destination, to another, or for storing goods. The transportation process has been made a lot easier nowadays, with the effective use of pallets. We often forget how easy tasks have become, due to the many advances. Pallets now play a large role during the transportation of goods.

Recycled Pallets

With the increase in the number of recycled pallets, more are made available to businesses and other organizations. Broken and unwanted pallets are collected by recycling businesses. Recycling companies fix the broken pallets, allowing them to be re-used. Little cracks or missing features are added and fixed to broken pallets. Those pallets which are broken beyond repair, are cut into different sizes and used for parts. These pallets are then sold on to companies and businesses .

Plastic Pallets Verses Wooden Pallets

Both of these different types of pallets have their own unique advantages over one another. Both materials are used to makes pallets, to transport goods from one place to another. They are a very useful tool used by many businesses, day in day out. If we first look at cost effectiveness, plastic pallets are more expensive, compared to wooden pallets. Wooden pallets are also easier to fix when damaged, which makes them, re-usable. Fire safety is an important factor which should be considered. This should be a particular concern for warehouses, due to the amount of packaging which is stored. Wood is extremely flammable. However even though wood is flammable, it is also important to understand that plastic also burns and it burns faster and hotter than wood.

We can also look at the greener option.This is where plastic pallets hold more of an advantage over wood. Plastic pallets are by far a greener option than wood. Wooden pallets require the harvesting of many trees. This ultimately affecting the environment. Where as plastic pallets do not and they are 100% recyclable. Plastic pallets are also lighter when made, making them cheaper when they need to be freighted. Both materials however are suitable for pallets. Each one holding different strengths.
