Receiving bills for services we use is considered everyday business as usual. Everyone wants to get paid if they provide the services. However, before you pay any bill for services rendered, you should always double check the bill to make sure you are not being overcharged, or that the charges are actually for the services performed. This is especially true when medical bills are received.

If you one of the hundreds of lay people who blindly pay these bills without questioning things you don't understand on your bill, it is easy to understand why. All the confusion created by the many medical terminologies and service codes can easily create a sense of overwhelming helplessness and confusing. A lengthy medical stay and being anesthetized will only add to this confusion.

Many medical billing statements are, for a like of a better description, just plain wrong or fictitious and should be investigated further before you pay them. While many are just an oversight and missed the scrutiny of those writing up the statement, they still need to be clarified as a legitimate charge. Double billing for timely medication that was administered is a very common mistake. Being charged for services that were never rendered as well as medical mistakes could easily be interrupted as fraud. Question and clarify any suspicious statement claims.

Knowledge brings forth empowerment that can save you money.
