In order to keep up with your competition online, you're going to need to know what the newest and best marketing techniques are. Just like in the real world, online marketing and advertising techniques change and grow over time. Some advertising strategies become stale or are found to not be as effective as they were once thought to be. Here are some of the newest technologies to help you market your website or product.

Viral marketing is used to build awareness. As the name suggests, the news of your product or business is supposed to spread quickly. Entertaining people with funny videos or games that incorporate the company's logo is one form of viral marketing. It relies on people being so entertained or excited that they spread the word quickly, then those people tell more people, and so on. It's an affordable way to get the word out about your business.

Newsletter marketing is a marketing tool that can help you build a relationship with existing customers. Have them sign up for email newsletters that contain new information about your business, coupons, offers, and new products. Don't send a long email that will bore people. If you really have a lot to share, add links that they can click on if they want the extra information.

There are various types of online ads that are used very widely. Banner ads have been popular for a while. This consists of a small add that will be placed on another website that has similar content. For example, someone who has a food blog might post your banner that advertises your website that sells cooking supplies. Another way to advertise online is to place an ad before an online video. The advertisement can't be "fast-forwarded," so the user is exposed to your advertisement while they're waiting to watch their online video.

Some other types of website-related ads are pop-over and pop-under ads, which are ads that open in a new window when a person is on a different web page. A curtain ad is one that moves over the majority of the page content. It provides maximum exposure, as the viewer obviously sees the product before clicking on the ad or closing it. A splash ad is one that opens as soon as you click on a website. You have the option of skipping the ad and going directly to the home page.

Implementing any or all of these cutting-edge online marketing tools will help you build awareness of your business, and hopefully increase your customer base.
