If you regularly go places where there might be no reception a portable battery operated TV DVD player is the way to go. No need to carry a bunch of DVD's with you if you get a model that has an SD card and plays Divx files. You can easily convert your kids favorite DVD's to Divx and fit quite a few hours of TV on a large capacity SD card. Just remember to take a few movies that you will enjoy as well.

Battery operated TVs have really come of age since the invention of the LCD screen. It's now possible to purchase a TV that will fit into your pants pocket. Now you can enjoy your favorite shows anytiime, anywhere, even while you're out camping with your family. Camping is great for kids during the day but it's a bit trickier to keep them entertained when the sun goes down. Not so when you have a battery operated TV. Kids will quite happily drift off to sleep with a cup of hot chocolate while watching their favorite evening show.

When you are choosing a model that is right for you make sure you demo it in store before purchasing. Motion blur on the images produced by cheaper LCD screens is common so look out for that. Pixels have a measurable response time The cheaper models just aren't capable of keeping up with the changes required for fast moving images. More expensive models will keep this phenomenon down to a minimum or eliminate it all together.

Also take note of the viewing angle. High viewing angle simply means that you can view the TV at different angles and still get a great picture. Portable battery operated TV's are best viewed directly from the front so viewing angle is not the biggest deciding factor. For larger portable battery operated TV's that more than one person is going to be viewing at a time viewing angle is a more critical deciding factor.A common size that you will see in battery operated TVs is the 7 inch model. With a high resolution and brightness you can get quite a good quality picture on these models The brighter the screen the better the picture viewing will be in brightly lit areas. Also check the resolution as the higher the resolution the better quality picture you will get.

How long the batteries last between changing or charging si yet another consideration you might want to factor into your decision making. You will more than likely receive an AC charger with your TV but if the unit uses standard batteries you may need to purchase a wall charger. A 12 volt charger is also great for topping your TV up in the car as well.

Miniaturisation of technology can also be life saving during times of natural disaster. Now, with the miniaturisation of battery operated TVs it's possible to include one in your emergency kit along with your portable radio.

You'll need a battery operated TV to receive the national emergency television broadcast. Make sure you get a model that runs on disposable batteries. It's no good having one that runs on lithium when the battery goes flat and you have no mains power to recharge it.

You can now even take a portable satellite receiver system with you when you're out camping or travelling. The PocketDish is one such system you can take with you but it's not an actual receiver. You simply record your favorite shows on the device before you leave and enjoy them at your leisure. You aren't limited to satellite TV broadcasts but can also put your favorite photos, music, and games on the device for an all 'round entertainment experience.

For an actual portable satellite receiver you would need to check out DirecTV's SatGo system. With a 17" screen it's not carry in your pocket portable but comes in it's own fold up carry case that is easily carried in the car. Makes for the perfect device on camping trips, days at the beach or having a tailgate party.
