A Society Without Looks
I always like to think long-run and it has served me well in my life so far. When we are 60 and married, do we really care what our wife looked like 40 years ago. She may have been the hottest girl when she was 20, but she's probably not all that hot right now. I've never really seen a 60 year-old woman that I was physically attracted to. I see many 18 year-old girls that I am attracted to, but aren't these the exact same woman just in some crazy time warp? Looks really mean absolutely nothing in the grand scheme of things. Personality is everything. It is constantly evolving, constantly improving. We never really lose our personality. If we fall in love with a girl for her looks, doesn't that mean we will not be in love with her, when she starts to age? If we fall in love with a girl for her personality, unless her personality drastically changes, we will still be in love with her beyond her aging process.
So why are we all concerned about looks when it really means nothing? I think one of the biggest problems guys have is setting their physical standards too high. Everyone is focusing on looks, no one really cares about personality. We are all just following the crowd and doing what society says is right. No one can tell you what is going to make you truly happy. Only you can decide that for yourself. In terms of marriage, we should be looking for a person that we will still be attracted to beyond her good-looks. We should be looking deeper into a woman's personality.
This means some drastic changes in the types of woman I ask out on dates. If I am concentrating on personality, I believe I will ask out more average looking girls with great personalities. I will deliberately not attempt to ask out those hot girls who are pretty much stupid. I will basically be dating more average girls and passing on more good-looking girls. It's a weird paradox to be living at my age, but I think it will ultimately lead me to the happiest life. Who cares what society says about looks, they don't know what makes me happy. If I followed the rest of society, I would end up like the rest of society. I am the master of my own destiny and if I choose to date fat chicks because they have better personalities than hot chicks, that's my choice. Once we remove ego from our lives, the answers to our life questions appear that much easier.
