Winterberg Germany

In the country of Germany you will find there are numerous cities and towns which can catch your attention. Of these you will find that staying in Winterberg is a wonderful choice no matter what time of year. Before you start planning on the places to visit or the activities that you can do you may wish to know where this town is located. You will be able to find Winterberg in the middle of the Sauerland. This is a hilly area which can be seen spreading across most of the south-eastern part of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia.

The town of Winterberg lies in the Hochsauerland district of North Rhine-Westphalia. It can be found near the Lenne and Ruhr Rivers. Not too far from Winterberg you will be able to find four neighboring cities that you can visit. These cities are Hallenberg, Medebach, Olsberg and Schmallenberg. As you explore the sights and culture which can be found in these locations do take the time to enjoy the natural beauty of North Rhine-Westphalia.

Within the city of Winterberg you will find there is a wealth of great places that you can visit. These will include places like St. James' Church. This church was built in dedication to St. James the Elder. During the Middle Ages this church was quite popular with traveling pilgrims as they could use the church to rest on their way to the saint's grave in Santiago de Compostela in Spain. The church can be found on the route which is known as the "Heathland Route". This route lies between Leipzig and Cologne.

Another interesting place that you may wish to visit while you are in Winterberg is that of Schleimer's Mill. This mill was the first watermill to be built in the Ruhr River. There is mention of this mill being used in 1332. As you visit the mill you will be able to gain an insight into the intricacies of the miller's craft. The history that you will gain from visiting mill will allow you to see and understand the rich history and heritage of Winterberg.

There are still numerous places of interest that you can visit while you are in Winterberg. While these are exceptional and very interesting there may be times when you may like to go on exciting excursions outside of the town. In this case you will have a wide choice of places that you can visit as day trips or even a few days spent in other locations besides that of Winterberg.

One such place that you might like to visit is that of Fort Fun adventure park. In this theme park you will be able to go on over 40 different rides. See a wealth of live shows and events which are sure to take your breath away. Other excursions that you may be interested in visiting while you are in Winterberg are that of Berleburg Palace, Lake Möhnesee or even Lake Biggesee.

As you see there are numerous interesting places that you can visit while you are in Winterberg. The time that you spend in this town is sure to whet your appetite to learn more about the North Rhine-Westphalia region.
