The internet is a huge landscape that continues to grow each year. For online business owners, this means using savvy marketing techniques to draw visitors to their web sites. But what separates one web site from another? The answer lies in the marketing techniques used and the continual marketing efforts by business owners.

Web sites are essentially the same. They contain pictures, articles, ordering pages, and product descriptions. While web sites are an important marketing tool, they are not the only marketing tool. Other ways to market your online business include:

SEO keywords; Creating email lists; Branding products with a logo; Blogs; Affiliate marketing

SEO keywords

SEO, or search engine optimization, is one of the easiest marketing techniques to use. When people are searching for a topic online they oftentimes conduct searches by typing in keywords. These keywords are found by search engines and the results are posted. You can increase traffic to your web site by adding these words into the site's text.

The easiest way to do this is to create a list of common words you think people would use to look up your online business. You can also use tools found on search engines like Google to help you find the most common words.

Adding these keywords throughout the text on your web site will help search engines find your site. You should not add too many keywords on one page, however, because as the internet becomes more competitive, so have the search engines. They will often overlook web sites that include too many keywords. Try for no more than 2-3% keyword density per keyword on web pages.

Changing keywords often will also help search engines find your site. Always add keywords into articles, metatags, and web page headlines.

Creating email lists

Creating an email list by asking visitors to sign up for newsletters, special updates about products, or other special offers can help you maintain a steady stream of traffic. Reminding customers they should visit your web site will result in additional sales. Email lists should not be abused, however. Sending daily emails will only result in people wanting to be taken off your list. Email and newsletters should be sent no more than once or twice a month in order to be successful.

Branding products with a logo

A logo prominently displayed on your web site, shipping materials, email, newsletters, and any other items your business uses will help you create a brand, which can boost sales. Word-of-mouth advertising is still one of the best ways to promote your business. A logo that people instantly recognize can increase sales and allow others to spread the word about your business.

Design a logo that represents your business, one that is simple and easy to recognize. Over time, your product will be associated with the logo, which will make your business easier to find online. Place banner ads, button ads, and other types of ads online that display your logo.

Blogs

A well-written blog can help promote your business to specific groups, which can increase traffic and sales. Blogs should reflect knowledge you have on a certain subject, advocate a cause, or just be a humorous commentary about your industry. Blogs are not used to blatantly promote your business. Adding your web address to your blog is all the advertising you will need.

Blogs should be posted at least twice a week in order to keep people interested. While you can blog about anything, you should try to write about what you know and what you care about so it will be genuine.

Affiliate marketing

Creating an affiliate marketing program and allowing others to promote your business is a way to reach new markets and increase sales. Those who promote your site will make a commission on every sale they make through various forms of internet advertising. This is one way to cut down on the amount of time you will have to spend marketing.

Online marketing requires planning, using various techniques at one time, and spending the time needed to increase traffic and sales for your business.
