Charles Frederick Worth started the first couture house in 1858 in Paris, this paved the way of fashion and it was a one of kind business. The fashion industry took their ideas from this type of business. Tailors and dressmakers were the innovators in clothing, while the textile industry led the industry in fashion trends. For designers to get inspired they would look at other designer's collections, they created new fabrics, from this they created new styles and trends, and this brought the fashion industry to the success it sees today.
Fashion trends are established by designers, by doing this it allows them to create a brand reputation for themselves. Today it is very common for a designer to create a collection; a collection is similar types of clothing that are styled the same for the season. This collection is high end and mass market design ready. The designer will take the high end clothing and create a mass market design so it can be marketed to everyday people.
Fashion refers to style in a specific period of time; basically this is different types of costume or clothing design. Fashion week is very important for designers; they depend on this week to display their clothing designs. Designer from all over the world come to each city for fashion week to show their new designs to audiences.
The fashion industry is influenced by fashion companies creating collections of clothing. The styles of clothing changes from one generation to another and when looking back in time you can see this in the social classes. As time goes by culture and society play an important role in fashion designs. When fashion designers manufacture clothing they want the clothing to fit well and to look good.
Designers look at the world and study the different trends in fashion, they use a sketch pad to design clothes, they need to select fabrics and color and the designer always oversees the final production of their design. They visit manufactures and different trade shows, they do this to get samples and decide what type of fabrics to use with their designs.
Since most designers work in smaller companies they need to do most of the production work, from sewing, designing to pattern making. When the final product is going through the review process the designer might need to travel to suppliers or manufactures to check out the product and make decisions on it to approve or disapprove.
Placing color, details and seeing what is proportionate in clothing is the special talent of a designer. The designer will need to oversee the process of creating and manufacturing the garments, if something is not right they can make the correction on the spot. Once the manufacture gets the final approval the clothes are then produced and sent off to the stores.
