I'm A Doctor!

My doctor had passed away and I needed a new one. A friend told me about a local clinic. I went there to see a doctor about a persistent cough. In the examination room, I sat patiently until a lady came in and checked my blood pressure and took my temperature. She had a lot of questions for me. So I asked her one, "Are you a doctor?"

"Yes," she said, "Do you have a problem with that?"

I replied, "No. I've never been to a lady doctor before." I paused a moment and then asked her, "Will I have to take my clothes off?"

"Not if you don't want to," she laughed.

I told her about my persistent cough. She ran lots of test on me. When I returned to get the results she reassuringly told me, "You have an allergy. Take these little pills and you will be just fine." That news shocked me! I then told her that I had taken every kind of cough medicine in the drug store but nothing worked. It was very frustrating.

She said, "You have been treating the symptom, which is the cough. I am treating the cause, which is the allergy."

I took the pills and the cough disappeared. When I went back for a follow up visit, I told her in amazement, "I can not believe that little pill got rid of my prolonged cough so quickly." Then I asked her, "How did you do that?"

She said, "I am a doctor! You treat symptoms. I run tests and treat causes."

Thinking about this later I realized that when we have problems we try to treat the problem ourselves, but we can miss treating the causes. Problems are symptoms. So often the cause is a lack of focus on what we have that we should be grateful for. We should be totally committed to using our strengths to serve in the next moment, to bring about what we desire. Commit to what we can be, can do, and have. This is better than committing to what we are not, can't do, and don't have. Make the probabilities of what happens in the next moment positive, not problems.

We give our strengths and talents and receive the positive outcomes we expect. The way to receive is to give. The true giver is the receiver, every time. I know this is tough to take. Just trust me for now.
