Well, actually not that hard. Due to the constant advances made in computer related software technology, computer software has become much more versatile and more easy to use than ever. Gaining remote access to your home computer is probably something you have always wanted to try out but never found exactly the right remote desktop application or perhaps you stumbled upon an error and did not know how to continue. Creating a remote access connection between two computers is really not a hard task at all, and can be carried out by practically anyone who can follow a few simple instructions.

First of all, you need to know that both computers need to be connected to the internet, and need to have the same remote desktop application running. The first thing you need to do on the road to creating a remote access connection between your home computer and office computer, or perhaps even your laptop, is to find a remote desktop software that is suitable for your needs. Free remote desktop applications are great, sure, but they have been always criticized for not offering a high enough level of information security. It all depends on your needs, I guess. If you only want to copy or view files on the target computer, or maybe access a surveillance camera or a web cam, then a free solution is perfect for you. However, if you intend to use the remote desktop connection for creating backups for important files, or personal items, your best bet would be to go for any of the numerous professional remote access software applications which are now readily available all over the internet.

After choosing a software you can download the latest version, just make sure you do not have to purchase two products, one for each computer. My advice would be to go for a product whose' license allows you to install the remote desktop software on both your computers. Many of these software applications allow their users to try them out for a trial period, but with a shortened list of features. Ok, so for the next step you need to install the remote desktop applications on both computers. Most software tools come with both host and admin capabilities under one single application. However, there are some remote access tools which have separate tools for host and admin, so if you get such a tool, you should probably install both versions of each computer.

The next step is to set up the remote desktop application and prepare it for the first use. You need to open the application on your admin computer and enter the IP address of the host computer. Just a few easy click and you are all set. It might also be a good idea to look over the owner's manual, as it might contain certain instructions which only apply to that specific software application. Remember that if you stumble upon any technical problem whatsoever with the remote desktop application you should visit the manufacturers website and request support.
