Acne- Millions of people around the world suffer from it. There are a numerous acne treatments out there that a lot of people have had success with, and they are worth mentioning here. Before we look at the acne treatments we first have to understand some of the causes. The exact cause of acne is unknown, but there are a number of factors that can lead to acne. They are: hormones such as androgens- Androgens are a male sex hormone that increases during puberty. This is thought to produce something called sebum because the sebaceous glands become enlarged. Genetics is another factor that may lead to acne.

There are a few ways to prevent acne from occurring. Wash your face on a daily basis to avoid clogged pores. Avoid moisturizers or creams that clog pores, and avoid hairspray or mousse that tends to clog the pores at the side of the face. When you are shopping for cosmetics, make sure it says 'non comedogenic' on the side of the package.

Some acne medicine works for some people, whereas others it doesn't. If you are a woman, the birth control pill is something that many have had success with as well as myself. The pill decreases the amount of androgens in the body and therefore decreases the breakouts. Many have noticed a dramatic difference in their skin after a few months of using the birth control pill. Some women aren't suited for the pill because of increased risk for blood clots and strokes, especially if you smoke.

Benzyl peroxide is another great treatment for acne prone skin. You will find this ingredient in many cleaners such as Proactiv solution. Many people have had success with proactiv. You might have seen the late night infomercials with people raving about this product. How does it work? It is a combination therapy that combines benzyl peroxide along with sulfur to attack bacteria that causes acne.

The problem with many acne medications is that they have side effects. There are ways to improve your acne without prescriptions medications. Rose water can be used as a facial cleanser. Dip a cotton ball in the rose water and dab on your face 2-3 times daily. Also try to take a zinc supplement on a daily basis because it helps make your skin stronger and it also leaves your skin acne resistant. Another trick that people have been using to treat acne is egg whites. Crack the eggs, remove the yolk, and apply the egg whites directly to your face and let it sit for fifteen minutes.

As you can see there are numerous acne treatments. Some of them will work for some people but not others, but the key is to keep trying and don't give up until you find an acne treatment best suited for you.
