What is a House and What is a Home?

Where do you go when life gets you down? Where is that safe haven, that comforting place you can retreat to? It's your home, of course.

There's a definite difference between a house and a home. A house is a structure, a building....a home is a place you make your own by adding those special touches and glimpses of your personality. Warmth, comfort and a place to relax and veg out are what truly makes a house a home. A place where you can be yourself, let your hair down, do what you want, when you want.

Decorations add that special touch whether it be of sentimental pictures on the walls or displayed on tables. A warm fireplace is so soothing and relaxing. Your home definitely portrays your sense of style, as well as your personality.

Another way to relax in your home is in your bathroom...taking that soothing bath with special fragrant soaps, gels or bubble bath, candles burning - what a mood this creates! Or taking a hot shower with shower gel and afterwards lathering on fragrant lotion and then using a wooden massager to help relax those tense muscles from the stressful day.

A warm fireplace to curl up next to is a great stress reliever at the end of the day. Add a nice glass of wine and you've got it all!

The kitchen is another room that helps make a house a home. Cooking with others in your family is a time for bonding with each other and sharing the ups and downs of the day. A time of communicating with each other, eating together (something that unfortunately rarely happens these days) can be a wonderful time to feel you are a part of the family, you are special and helps you cope with the outside world.

I remember when my kids were growing up and I was married to my ex. We each had two girls around the same age. Every Sunday morning before church my ex would make pancakes and we would all sit around the table, eat, talk, laugh, giggle, tell stories, etc. It was a great time of sharing and enjoying each other's company. To this day the kids still mention this special time of being together - even though they now range in age from 19 to 24. Memories were being made and we didn't really know it!
