Shed Building For Dummies

My wife and I have a standing joke between us. I have promised her for so long now that I will build us a shed, but so far I have failed to produce one. Each birthday and Christmas for the last two years she has asked me what present I would like, apart from the Shed Building For Dummies book.

Truth be told, I do not really want the Dummies book. I was for a long time sure I could come up with some plans and ideas of my own without spending money on the book. I do not know why she should recommend this book to me in preference to all the other publications on the subject that must be out there.

My wife was tired of waiting for me to get started on the project so she wanted me to have the Dummies book to motivate me to get started and get the shed built. I had a few ideas of my own floating around in my head, so eventually I did some research of my own on the internet and at the local library, on shed building, and I came away with a solid shed building plan which I was sure would work.

One thing I did not realize, was how much thought and planning needs to go into the construction of a shed. Size, materials to use, location, supply of electricity and water taps, security and maintainable, are just some of the things I needed to think about before starting the project.

I wanted my friend whose knowledge and experience I valued, to look the plans over before I went any further. This he did, and he said they looked OK. I went ahead and sourced the materials I would need, so I knew before I started how much it was all going to cost.

It took several weeks to complete the job, but it was well worthwhile, and I did enjoy building it. I also learned a lot from the experience I gained constructing the shed.

I was glad I did the proper groundwork before I started, and following a good set of plans was the key to the success of the project.
